Now that you understand the scoring concepts, we need to apply that in practice to specific holes and pars. Here we look at calculations of how the different scores equate at different holes, for example a par 3 and a par 5.

Par 3

  • Birdie: one stroke below par would be a score of 2;
  • Bogey: one stroke above par would be a score of 4;
  • Eagle: two strokes under par would be a score of 1;
  • Double Bogey: two strokes above par would be a score of 5;
  • Double Eagle / Albatross: three strokes under par would be 0 (and not possible on a par 3) and
  • Triple Bogey: three strokes over par would be a score of 6.

Par 5

  • Birdie: one stroke below par would be a score of 4;
  • Bogey: one stroke above par would be a score of 6;
  • Eagle: two strokes under par would be a score of 3;
  • Double Bogey: two strokes above par would be a score of 7;
  • Double Eagle / Albatross: three strokes under par would be 2; and
  • Triple Bogey: three strokes over par would be a score of 8.
